This week a couple of us took a trip to Preston, to visit the Oato headquarters. We’ve been using Oato since 2021, and we were the first cafe to introduce it in-store!

Oato are a British manufacturer committed to a sustainable future. Produced in Lancashire, using British oats and solar power, it is then bottled in Preston, ready to be sent out to us. Setting Oato apart from other alternative milk brands, they deliver in reusable glass bottles to lessen the environmental impact. The team showed us round the factory where the oat milk is bottled and sent out, as well as the bottles being returned and cleaned, ready to be used again.

Sustainability is at the core of everything we do, so it’s important to us that our partners share these values.

• Oato creates 10% of the CO2 output of cow’s milk
• The glass bottles are re-used an average of 25 times, before being recycled to make new glass bottles
• The oat milk production is undertaken by solar power
• Oato is made without any animal products

We use Oato in our entirely plant-based shop on Northgate Street as well as Bridge Street and at the bakery. We find that it tastes great with our espresso, and steams and pours perfectly. If you haven’t tried it already, why not switch it up on your next visit?
